Offshore Sailing Training:
2-Week Atlantic Adventure from Tenerife!
Embark on an unforgettable offshore sailing training in the Atlantic Ocean! Our 2026 season kicks off on February 28 with this exciting 2-week voyage exploring the stunning Canary Islands and Madeira.
This hands-on training covers approximately 800 nautical miles, starting from Tenerife and visiting Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Madeira, and La Palma before returning.

With a maximum of 4 trainees on board, you’ll enjoy ample space, personalized instruction, and a truly intimate sailing experience.

Island stops include 1–2 days on most ports, with up to 3 days on Madeira depending on (weather) for deeper exploration.
Arrival & Departure
- Meeting point: February 28 after 16:00 at Marina San Miguel, Tenerife (nearest airport: Tenerife South – TFS).
- We’ll check in to the yacht, provision together, and prepare for the adventure.
- Departure the next morning after breakfast and a comprehensive safety briefing.

Approximate Route
Sailing means dependence on wind and weather. Therefore, it should be understood that the sailing route is not a fixed schedule. The final decision on the route is made by the skipper based on the weather forecast.
Approximate Itinerary
Sailing is at the mercy of wind and weather—the skipper makes final route decisions based on forecasts for safety and enjoyment.
Day 1: Tenerife → Gran Canaria (~60 NM)
Day 2: Gran Canaria → Lanzarote (~110 NM)
Day 3: Land excursion on Lanzarote (rented car or public transport)
Days 4–6: Lanzarote → Madeira (~280 NM), with arrival on Day 6
Days 6–8: Explore Madeira, the “Island of Flowers”—rent a car, visit Funchal, and enjoy free time
Days 9–10: Madeira → La Palma (~250 NM)
Day 11: Arrival in La Palma
Day 12: Excursion by rented car to Caldera de Taburiente National Park; begin return leg
Day 13: La Palma → Tenerife (~70 NM)—keep an eye out for whales and dolphins!
Day 14: Disembarkation by 10:00

Training Content
This intensive voyage covers essential offshore skills:
- Yacht handover and inspection (engine, rigging, sails)
- Route planning and weather forecasting (marine reports & GRIB files)
- Safety briefing and emergency procedures (fire, flooding, man overboard)
- Safety equipment familiarization
- Yacht preparation for sea and provisioning
- Watch scheduling (always in pairs—no one sails alone!)
- ColRegs review and light signals
- Navigation (paper charts, chartplotter, tablet)
- Night sailing organization (lighthouses, crew management)
- Managing seasickness
- Logbook keeping
- VHF radio communication
- Sail handling, maneuvers, and reefing
- Port maneuvers

Important Note
This is a true ocean passage with night sailing—suitable for sailors with prior experience and good physical fitness. Not recommended for complete beginners!
Beginners can build skills on our preparatory cruise in Montenegro (April 2026).
Bring your own foul-weather gear; Atlantic nights can be cool in early spring.
This training provides the mileage and experience ideal for the Yachtmaster Coastal Skipper (Sail) qualification or exam.
