IYT- Yachtmaster Coastal Sail
- The IYT Yachtmaster Coastal Sail is an internationally recognized certificate of competency that entitles you to sail sailing yachts up to 24 m in length in coastal waters up to 60 nautical miles from the coast. It is valid for moderate wind and sea conditions and includes steering a sailing vessel with a sail area of over 80 square meters.
- Please note: The IYT Yachtmaster Coastal Sail is not suitable for commercial use and cannot be converted into a professional certificate.
The Yachtmaster Coastal Sail training consists of 5 days of theory, including the final exam, and a week of sailing in a tidal area followed by a practical exam. Since it is almost impossible to fully convey the extensive material in such a short time, the theoretical content should already be mastered before the course begins.
The classroom instruction takes place in our training rooms in Bremen. During these 5 days, all relevant topics are covered in detail and all ambiguities are cleared up to ensure safe preparation for the theory exam. We also complete 2 hours of navigation exercises every day to prevent any surprises in the navigation subject.
The practical training takes place on a charter yacht on the IJsselmeer. This week we sail from Lelystad through the West Frisian Islands, depending on the wind and weather. Here too, the exam takes place on the last day.
There will only be a maximum of 4 guests + skipper on board the ship . This means that each sailor has enough time and space.
The theory and practical parts do not have to be completed in one go. Both parts of the exam must be taken within one year.

- Minimum age 18 years
- 25 days and 800 miles at sea, including 2 days as watch leader/skipper
- 12-hour night watch
- The minimum time at sea must have been completed before the final examination.
- You must have an IYT recognized VHF radio operator certificate or be currently completing the full IYT VHF-SRC course.

The nautical charts approved by IYT for the Yachtmaster Coastal exam can only be purchased in the UK. Unfortunately, the shipping costs are quite high.
